Today I want to share tips I’ve learned from many years of helping with fundraising events at our nursing home. In 2020, Conoco Phillips donated $31.3 million to disaster relief, local contributions, and signature programs including the United Way, habitat and species conservation, STEM education, and higher education initiatives. They also gave $25.3 million to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Conoco Phillips has an online grant request program for qualifying non-profits. In 2020, they reportedly gave over $7.6 million to eligible charities. Dunkin’ Donuts supports organizations working in hunger relief with their Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation which offers grants to food banks and similar food distribution programs. They focus on cities where CVS operates and give $100 gift cards to eligible programs to be used on school supplies, water, personal care items, etc.
Although they are not currently accepting grant requests, they have already committed $100,000 to ReFresh’s Community Health Outreach Program and will be focusing their work in New Orleans, Englewood , and Jackson, MS. Employees must have worked with Nordstrom for at least one year before they are eligible to apply for a matching gift. Through Macy’s “Earnings for Learnings” program, educational institutions are eligible to receive $250 grants after an individual volunteers for at least 15 hours in a calendar year. Dick’s Sporting Goods offers donations and sponsorships to sports teams and leagues. They support organizations that have a focus on sports as well as organizations that promote physical activity for young people. They accept requests for warehouse donations, regional office donations, and grants.

They eventually had to pay $145 million in reparations for submitting fraudulent claims of rehabilitation therapy. This was the largest settlement that a nursing home company has ever had to pay in American history. The largest nursing home company in the U.S. is Five Star Senior Living, with a revenue of $5.5 Billion and 24,700 employees.
There are a plethora of ways that a corporation can give back to the community. Let’s Roam has provided more than $1,000,000 in in-kind donations to charitable organizations in the form of scavenger hunt vouchers, merchandise, and more! Other organizations pledge volunteer hours with non-profits, with some even going as far as to give their employees up to 7 days off a year to volunteer. Still, other corporations give back by matching employee donations.

Albertsons offers a wide range of philanthropic programs but primarily focuses their donations on organizations who deal with youth education, recycling, nutrition, or hunger relief. Reebok will match full-time and part-time employees’ donations to most nonprofits. Office Depot’s volunteer grant program rewards employees who regularly volunteer at a nonprofit organization.
Fensterman, who served on the council from 2010 until 2014, recused himself from votes involving business partners and clients. ProPublica’s review of Health Department and council records did not turn up any nursing home ownership applications within the last five years that were rejected because of lapses in patient care. The Best Buy Foundation is committed to giving through national grants, community grants, Twin Cities grants, and capital campaign support.
There are a grand total of 25,000 senior residents who are managed by the 240 nursing home communities of Holiday Retirement. An expansion that grew from the West Coast starting with a single nursing home in Vancouver, Washington, in 1971. In the 1990s, Holiday Retirement was adding 22 new properties to their holdings every year.
